Tips For Your Home Heating This Summer

Read our 5 tips to ensure that your home heating is maintained and ready for the winter months.

  1. Inspect Your Oil Tank

It’s essential to ensure your fuel is stored in safe conditions. If your tank is not maintained properly you may experience a leak which can be costly to remove and poses as an environmental risk.

As you would do with a boiler, your tank should have a yearly service/check to ensure that they are in compliance with the regulations (Tank Health Check). This can help prevent any future spills or problems.

  2. Allow Room For Condensation

During the summer, moist air can cause a build-up of condensation within the tank which can cause sludge formation, blocking fuel lines and filters. Having your tank full to the top and warm weather can increase condensation so don’t fill your tank completely and leave some room at the top to prevent this.

  3. Have Your Boiler Serviced

Just as you would with a car, it is important to have your boiler serviced annually. Regular servicing keeps it running safely and smoothly. This should be carried out by a registered OFTEC engineer who will check if any parts are needing to be replaced and that it has the correct mixture of air and fuel.

  4. Protect Your Heating Oil

Heating oil tanks hold up to thousands of pounds worth of fuel. Although chances of being targeted are relatively low as heating oil isn’t the easiest thing to steal, it still can occur. Heating oil is usually stolen due to the remote location of the tank making it an easy target. Read our blog post here to find out more on steps you can take to protect your heating.

  5. Receive Automatic Top Ups

Sign up to our Top Up Service and have a remote monitoring system installed to your tank to receive automatic top-ups. This will ensure you don’t ever run out of heating oil unexpectedly. Having this installed during the summertime means you can relax all winter knowing you won’t run out when you need it the most. To find out more on our top-up service click here.
